At Khaki Law, we understand that legal matters can be both emotionally and financially challenging. Our goal is to provide you with clear and transparent information about our legal fees and expenses so that you can make informed decisions.

Initial Consultation
We offer an initial paid consultation to discuss your case and provide you with an overview of your legal options. This consultation is charged at a flat rate of $336 (including GST and PST) and typically lasts for up to 60 minutes. We maintain a busy practice and cannot offer free consultations.
During the paid consultation, you will receive personalized legal advice tailored to your specific situation. Our experienced lawyers will take the time to understand the details of your case and provide you with clear guidance on the best course of action.
Hourly Rates
Our legal services are mostly billed on an hourly basis. The hourly rate varies depending on the complexity of the case and the experience level of the lawyer handling your matter. Our hourly rates are $300 to $400 plus applicable taxes.
Hourly legal fees are charges based on the amount of time your lawyer spends working on your case. This includes time spent on phone calls, emails, meetings, research, drafting documents, and court appearances.
Retainer Fees
A retainer fee is an upfront payment that is required to secure our legal services. This fee is held in a trust account and is used to cover the initial costs of your case. The amount of the retainer fee will depend on the specifics of your case and will be discussed during your initial consultation but usually starts at $5,000.

Flat Fees
For certain types of cases, we offer flat fee arrangements. This means that you will be charged a fixed amount for the entire case, regardless of the number of hours spent on it.
Flat fees are typically available for services such as:
- Uncontested Divorce with Children: $2,000 (plus taxes and disbursements)
- Uncontested Divorce without Children: $1,500 (plus taxes and disbursements)
- Written Agreements (cohabitation agreements, pre-nuptial/marriage agreements, separation agreements: starting at $3,000 (plus taxes and disbursements)
- Simple Will: starting at $750 (plus taxes and disbursements)
- Power of Attorney or Representation Agreement: starting at $450 (plus taxes and disbursements)
- Simple Will, including Power of Attorney and Representation Agreement: starting at $1,000 (plus taxes and disbursements)
- Mirrored Wills for a couple: starting at $1,200 (plus taxes and disbursements)
- Mirrored Wills for a couple, including Power of Attorney and Representation Agreements: starting at $1,500 (plus taxes and disbursements)
Additional Expenses/Disbursements
In addition to our legal fees, there may be additional expenses related to your case. These can include, but are not limited to:
- Court filing fees
- Process server fees
- Expert witness and reports fees
- Costs for obtaining medical or financial records
- Travel expenses
- Property appraisals
- Land title registrations and searches

Limited Scope Retainers and Unbundled Legal Services
We recognize that every client’s needs are unique. We offer limited scope retainers and unbundled legal services to provide flexible and affordable legal support.
This allows you to hire our legal team for specific tasks within your case, rather than full representation. This means you can get professional assistance where you need it most while managing other aspects of your case independently.
We can provide you with the option to select individual services, such as document preparation, legal advice, or court representation, tailored to your specific needs and budget.
